Phil Roy West Chester, PA USA - Folk

-- "A highly accomplished work" - Leonard Cohen

He toiled for years as the songwriter for an array of legendary singers and Academy Award winning films. Now, a full 20 years after he arrived in Los Angeles, Philly native Phil Roy is finding his own audience.

Phil Roy was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He currently resides in Santa Monica, California.
After graduating High School he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. While taking a course called "Pop Songs 1", Phil realized he had found an area in music on which he could focus. Music, words, and recording studios combined with his vocals and guitar would be the expression of his imagination.
The writing and recording became his life and soon Phil relocated to Los Angeles to work with two friends he had met at college. Subsequently, record deals ensued (Warner Bros. and EMI). It is most likely that you've never heard of these bands or these records. What you might be familiar with are the many excellent and familiar artists that have found Phil's songs compelling enough to record and call their own.

From such luminaries as:
Ray Charles, The Neville Bros., "Pops"Staples, Joe Cocker, Aaron Neville, Paul Young, Tuck+Patti and Barrington Levy.
To Rock and Pop artist like Widespread Panic, Guster, LA. Guns, Az Yet, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
To the Films, Leaving Las Vegas, As Good As it Gets, The Mask, I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and Meteor Man
His songs have been heard in every corner of the world. But there were always artists and friends asking, "When are you going to make your own record? / Where can we see you perform?" Well, those questions have now been answered.
Phil Roy's new album "grouchyfriendly" is the culmination of a unique and diverse career. The album pairs two of Brazil's most accomplished guitarists, Heitor Pereira and Ricardo Silveira with renowned bassist John Leftwich to form the nucleus of a musical landscape of which Tom Waits has called "an atmospheric wicked beauty"
Co-writers include film composer Hans Zimmer, Adam Cohen, Gavin Greenaway and Heitor Pereira among others. His long friendships with both Nicolas Cage (Actor) and Nicholas Klein (screenwriter "The Million Dollar Hotel") have resulted in songs also included in the collection.
In creating this CD, he has tried to focus on story, musicality and emotional tone. In his own words Phil explains;
"The extraordinary validation from my peers, is for me, a testament that I’m on the right path. Over the years I've accomplished things I never thought possible. It’s been an amazing journey.
As strange as it may sound once again I feel that I’m at the beginning of the beginning. My new starting point is the release of "grouchyfriendly".
I'm an independent artist determined to get my music heard".
